The Palawan City tour was way too tiring!!!
From the airport, we were fetched by a crew from Fran Pension House (our home for our three-day stay).
After like, 30mins. of checking out the room and unpacking our baggage, we went on to the activity of the day... unravelling the secrets of the beautiful town of Puerto Princesa.
First stop was Plaza Quartel, the very place where the Japanese burned 150 American soldiers during World War II. It was said that when the Japanese realized they were losing the war, they put all the prisoners of war in the dungeon and burned all of them alive, (except for the eleven survivors who swam their way to Iwahig).

Now, this states it all.. |
Statue showing an American being burnt alive..
Just across the Plaza is the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the City's main cathedral. The cathedral was very well preserved despite over a hundred years of its existence. They say this cathedral was built six days after Spaniards founded Palawan.
Over a hundred year old cathedral, still standing tall |
30-45 minutes travel time from the cathedral is the Binuatan Creations, where the locals of Palawan do the weaving, one of their main source of living. I actually learned a little of weaving..hehe
these are for sale, a little costly though |
its me, trying the weaving! |
unfinished craft |
Weaving is actually easy, (easier than sewing, atleast for me..) but it requires lots of patience, perseverance and creativity.
After being awed by the creations of the Palawenos, we proceeded to the Crocodile Farm where I get to see the crocs, upclose and personal!
The largest crocodile captured in the Philippines |
Baby crocs, medium crocs, large and extra large crocs! |
ooh, c'mon! admit it! he's oh, so cute!!! |
Not only do they preserve the crocs, they also take care of other endangered animals.
the ostrich is actually biting the fence |
the cutie bearcat..super camera shy! |
trying to spread his wings.. |
the hornbill strikes a pose, too bad the cage isn't camera friendly..hehe |
Mitra's Ranch? The view offers undefinable relaxation, and the fresh air gives undeniable comfort!
a very calming view |
right on top of the hill |
its Mitra's house on the ranch |
The ranch offers a good view of the majestic beauty of Honda Bay.
After a tiring roam around the city, our tummies deserve to be filled with the finest and best tasting breads and pastries of Palawan. Baker's Hill offers a good and tasty variety of breads which will surely satisfy your food cravings. The entrance greeted us with the smell of freshly baked foodies that made me long more for its goodness!
that monkey clinging caught my attention |
me, munching a bread with a hotdog inside |
Baker's Hill also have these fiber glass sculptures of the famous Walt Disney characters which makes it look like a theme park for the kiddos.
After filling our stomachs with Baker's Hill's goodies, we're all ready to go home.
Fritz and I decided to rest a little before we go to our planned dinner date at Badjao Sea Front. Awakened by my phone's alarm clock, we ready ourselves for the dinner.
Badjao Seafront is 15 minutes away (by tryke) from the pension house. Lucky us! There is no more reservations left for that night. We don't have much choice but to transfer to another restaurant for our dinner.
Heartbroken, we pursued our dinner at Kinabuch's, one of the famous bar and resto of Puerto Princesa which serves exotic dishes like crocodile meat and tamilok (a wood-worm which they say is a family of oyster). Good thing both weren't available that night for us to try! ( im not fond of eating exotic dishes by the way!) Instead, we ordered Nilagang baka, Crispy pata and fried rice, all with its usual taste. Not the extraordinary dine that I expected, but it sure satisfied my hunger.
the yumminess of Kinabuchs, and us |
We went straight home after our delicious dinner and chilled on the couch infront of our room.
nothing beats bonding while puffing some smoke |
The first day of our Palawan escapade was really worth it all! Though we did not have the luxury of time to visit other beautiful sites i've seen on the web, the tour was still satisfying.
next up: Honda Bay Island Hoping
